Gloucester City Homes
What does your organization do (100-word description)
GCH is a Housing Association that provide social housing to rent and also offers some properties under the rent to buy scheme. I work in the Independent Living Service across 10 Sheltered Housing Schemes and 4 semi-sheltered housing schemes where all the residents are 55 years old and over
What digital skills training or activities do you or does your organization offer (if any)?
We do offer some training to help our younger tenants into work but we are looking at offering a service to our older tenants (55+) as well. I currently work in partnership with Age UK Gloucestershire and Adult Education in Gloucestershire to provide workshops and training sessions for our tenants in sheltered housing. However, we would like to do more.
Number of digital competence centres linked to your organization (if any)
0 but we do have a communal tablet computer on 9 of our Sheltered Housing schemes
Your function and/or responsibilities related to digital skills training and empowerment
I am the Activities Officer and my responsibility is to work with our Sheltered Housing tenants to find out what activities they would like to engage in and to support them to organise the activities and to access external help when needed, including applying for grants. During Get Online Week there were events held on most schemes and by Christmas every scheme will have host a Get Online Event
How are you involved in digital inclusion / empowerment?
I am trying to encourage tenants to Get Online and I am trying to promote the benefits of being online. This is why I have organised Get Online events at all the schemes and I plan to organise events at each scheme for All Digital Week in March
How did you learn about this community?
I searched it through the web
Why would yo like to join the network?
I would like to organise events as part of the All Digital Week and access ideas from other people as well as from unite-it
