Our online community is growing fast!

Hello all,

Let me introduce myself to all of you. I am Lize De Clercq, assigned by telecentre.org and Esplai Foundation to be your online communication facilitator. (Those that were at the Telecentre Leaders Forum in Riga will certainly remember me as lize-the-cameragirl.) This blogpost is a little report on the community’s activity of last week:

Back home from the Telecentre Leaders Forum in Riga, a lot of participants inmediately signed in as a member of… Continue

Lessons from Riga | Networks are about personal relations and trust

There are so many interesting things that happened during these two days of the Telecenters Forum... many lessons and ways for the network to move forward. The most relevant learning I am taking with me back to Seattle is that networks are about people who care for each other personally, first and foremost.

It is difficult to convey in few words how relevant this lesson is. Networks, as a form of organization, do not provide much value if personal relations, trust, and care for each other… Continue

Telecenter Leaders Forum in Riga | Building a network for collaboration in Europe

My work has brought me once again to this wonderful city for a gathering of Telecenter leaders representing almost every country in the European Union + some others. The effort to bring together organizations from around the EU working on e-inclusion programs started last year in Barcelona. In this second meeting of this nascent EU telecenters network these organizations will discuss ways to strengthen collaboration, establish venues to learn from each other, and find a common voice to promote… Continue

TLF-Europe outcomes | How I see it

The structure of the event meant that firm decisions and actions were agreed throughout the 2 days. Every group session and plenary was potentially bring back an action. In several cases, participants agreed to undertake joint activities such as Bulgaria (icentres) and Romania (EOS) who went as developing a proposal. In the case of EUTA, it was dissolution of the Association and participate in Telecentre-Europe network. Other outcomes include:

1. Expansion of the steering committee… Continue

TLF - Europe underway – all eyes on knowledge sharing and the network

The day started with introductory remarks from telecentre.org (Meddie), Microsoft (Melissa) and LIKTA (Prof. Imants Freibergs).

It had earlier been intimated to me that the audience is a mix of experienced telecentre practitioners and new birds - that were unsure if their technology centres and public libraries are indeed telecentres. In my remarks therefore, I underlined the operational definition of telecentres, consisting a place where technologies are accessed for training and… Continue

Telecentre Leaders' Forum - Europe | day 2

...then it was Wednesday, and the TLF-Europe run its final day. It was time to take stock and firm up outcomes.

Overall, I was impressed with this event. A couple of weeks earlier, the taskforce was grapping with the agenda and nature of participants that would make the main objectives of the event come alive - knowledge sharing and consolidating the telecentre network.

By Wednesday afternoon (day 2), I could see momentum among participants; they wanted the network and… Continue

Welcome kit for new members

These are some lines of observations I want to share with you after the first days of learning together how to use this tool:

Privacy of comments and/or messages between members?

For recently joined members, there seems to be a bit of confusion on sending messages between members. Most members start doing this on the "comment wall", which is great because all members can see how people start conversations and might be motivated to engage one… Continue

An exciting first day at the European Telecentre Leaders Forum, Riga 2008

The European Telecentre Leaders Forum started today in Riga, Latvia. The Latvian Information Technology and Telecommunications Association (LIKTA) — the event's host — is ridiculously well organized. Registrations went smoothly and, along with the regular papers and swag, we even got Latvian history books and Black Balsam in our welcome kits.…
