Staff exchange scheme

Dear all,

Building on past efforts of Telecentre-Europe, we are proud to officially launch a call for proposals on staff exchanges for the member organizations of our network!

This initiative responds to a real need of the European telecentres movement identified by members – knowledge sharing, and earmarks a total budget of 10.000,00 Euro. A maximum grant of 850 Euro / exchange will be provided within the current framework.

It was one of commitments to Arabic language communities and in the Middle Eastern-North African (MENA) region that a portal will be developed to facilitate knowledge sharing in the region. in collaboration with the community facilitators at Egypt ICT Trust Fund is jointly managing this portal. European Accessibility Forum

Is anyone going to be at the forum in Paris at the end of the month - Im going to be speaking on Mobile Phones - Form and Function - Issues in choosing a handset for disabled users - It would be great to meet up with anyone from the community and chat through areas of interest

Stronger telecentre voice for the Asia-Pacific region

The Asia-Pacific Telecentre Network (APTN), a collaborative initiative of and the United Nations' Economic and Social Commission for the Asia-Pacific (UN-ESCAP), was officially launched at the United Nations Conference Center in Bangkok on 19 November 2008, during a side event of the First Session of the Committee on ICT of ESCAP.

eInclusion Conference Final report published

The European Commission have published the final report of the eInclusion Conference in Vienna in December. It is available here, and on the eInclusion site, and the Telecentre-Europe launch event is prominently mentioned in the Executive Summary of the report, and also a detailed summary of Katia's workshop is also featured. Well done again to all involved.

Day 5 - the Philippines study visit

Day 5 started with a morning meeting. Yvonne Garcia-Flores from Intel was very kind to accept Tess’s invitation to meet me and talk about how Intel is involved in PhilCecNet.

Intel chairs the committee on infrastructure, as part of the PhilCecNet’s executive council. What they do is to facilitate infrastructure solutions for eCentres, by connecting with various Telecommunications providers, identified as potential stakeholders of eCentres.

Day 4 - the Philippines study visit

If during the third day we’ve traveled to the northern part of Manila, next day was planned for the southern area, specifically Bulacan area where we have visited an eSkwela center. We were accompanied there by the eSkwela program Director, Ms Maria Melizza D. Tan, who presented the mainframe and concept of eSkwela, which was created by the Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT).

Day 3 - the Philippines study visit

The third day started early in the morning with a trip to the northern area of Metro Manila, where we had our first meeting at PCCARD (The Philippine Council for Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources Research and Development) in Los Banos, Laguna. Nielsen Online, an Internet marketing research company publish at 9th March 2009 a report which shows that "social networking" sites are the four the most popular Internet activity, more popular than a personal e-mail.

Day 2 - the Philippines study visit

The day started with a presentation of eLGU (Jumpstarting Electronic Governance in Local Government), an initiative of CICT that assists local governments in the smooth transition to eGovernance. As a result of the project, all LGUs (Local Government Units), and we are talking here about more than 1500 communities, have online presence and they are going through a process of development of their websites, adding more interactivity and online tax payment services.

Day 1 - the Philippines study visit

Warm greetings from Manila to all!

As the first day of my study visit has come to an end, I am now looking back at the inspirational discussions and meetings throughout the day.
