A different perspective of the European Union

Have you ever asked yourself how can the “European Union” be discovered and explored from an original perspective? The project called Young Reporters School provides a great opportunity for all to stay in touch with latest developments on diverse matters of the European Union during the Swedish Presidency of the Council (1 July to 31 December 2009).

The project involves young pupils in the first or second year at an upper secondary school from seven counties of Sweden, who “work under the same conditions as other media”.

“My role in this project is to cover some of the meetings near my town, by writing articles and hopefully to make young people read my articles and make them more interested and involved in our Presidency”, says Pernilla Svensson, one of the young reporters.

To be member of the project implies a few activities like: writing, filming, taking pictures. Pernilla got involved in the project by sending a text about the most important issue for EU today.

During the 5th Ministerial eGovernment Meeting and Conference from Malmo, the Swedish young reporters will cooperate with my team of web-reporters putted together by Telecentre-Europe from Romania, for an efficient coverage of the entire event. Pernilla thinks that „interaction with other young reporters is going to be an interesting experience, especially since we probably would not have the same views about EU”.

The project Young Reporters propose a different, unique and fresh image of the European Union.

Is there anything that shocks, overwhelms or draws-in these young reporters about the little EU they see at such a conference? What do you think is "original" in such an exercise?
