ALL DIGITAL Awards 2019 finalists: digital resource " online lessons"

Year created: 2018

Resource owner: Association "Langas į ateitį", Lithuania

These 30 ICT online lessons in Lithuanian are intended to develop digital life skills of all adults in Lithuania (LT) and new internet users especially. Every lesson consists of visually structured material, video(s), extra links and self-estimation test(s). The topics cover the most common online and LT e-Government services, smart device usage and safer online behaviour, especially on social networks. This free resource is available on its own learning site (online since 2013) and also on sites and as well.

Different from the usual digital literacy training in LT, the focus here is more on the benefits of using digital services instead technological aspects, thus encouraging learners to go online, try and start using them. Visual content makes learning more attractive, and the videos included can be separately demonstrated by teachers as a lesson summary or discussion material in their classes. It is foreseen to create another 30 lessons in 2020.

The learning resource has been developed for using it in the project "Prisijungusi Lietuva" ("Connected Lithuania") for at least 100,000 learning courses participants in 2018-2021, and in parallel it will serve all willing citizens without time limits. After the project end, the lessons will remain online and will be constantly maintained and updated, as all the rest learning material on the website.

This resource complements training in the classes and is offered to each course participant who can study relevant topics by her(him)self then. Until summer 2019, already more than 8,000 participants have visited at least one lesson. According to course surveys, the feedback is positive, both teachers and participants positively evaluate topics as well as content. It is expected the lessons will be used not only for project purposes, but also in many schools, public internet access points and non-formal education organizations, as well as the most association "Langas į ateitį" training products.

The lessons are made as transferable SCORM packages using specific proprietary software. All original texts and questions could be translated only using the same application. Likely the specific subcontractor is required for this task. The videos can be easily extracted and subtitles added. In case the lessons should be localized for another country, most of screenshots and descriptions of LT e-Government services should be replaced by corresponding ones with that other country's local services. The estimated overall budget can reach 8.000 - 10.000 € for subcontracts plus own 100 working hours.
