In November 2008, Bangladesh Institute of ICT in Development (BIID) launched its own telecentre and co-branded it as Batighar (lighthouse) with a vision to develop it into an R&D facility to try out new service, service delivery tools/techniques, service mix (bundling).
Batighar has been the lab center where various operation and service related issues of telecenter have been extensively tested for future replication across the country.
On 15th December 2012, Bangladesh Institute of ICT in Development (BIID) launched two of its initiatives e-Krishok and e-Clinic services under Batighar Information centre network in Bangladesh jointly with VSO International.
Through these initiatives BIID desires to bring the benefits of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) to the remote communities.
The e-Krishok service - BIID main initiative - ensures access to information, input and market to the farmers to improve their livelihood.
