Best online content for kids was highlighted in Lithuania

In the very end of 2013 association Langas į ateitį announced the national winners of Best Content for Kids award. It was first round of the pan-European competition launched on Europe Day, 9 May 2013 by European Commission and Insafe in the frame of Safer Internet programme.

 

This award aimed at encouraging children and adults to create new and highlight already existing child-friendly, quality online content. There were four categories for entries available: children as individuals and groups, adult professionals and non-professionals. 41 applications were collected from Lithuania in all four categories! Most of entries were educational animated websites, school journals/newspapers, videos and games.

 

To finalize the national Best Content for Kids contest a nice event was held by organizers at the headquarters of TEO LT, AB – biggest Internet provider in Lithuania and Safer Internet project partner. Among the guests competition jury members and 12 winners (first 3 places from each category) were invited, honoured and awarded. Next to a bunch of prizes 1st place winners of each category carry on the competition on the European level. They are:

1st category – adult non-professionals

Site of children literature „Tales of Bumbambilija“ provides interactive stories of Lithuanian authors. It also encourages creativity of children providing step-by-step tips how to develop fairy-tales.

2nd category – adult professionals

Social-educational online game „The Challenge“ is developed by public library with the purpose to motivate children to learn. The computer game is linked to school curriculum, librarians work together with teachers. Children playing the game at the library can improve their grades at school.

3rd category – Individual young people

Fun, playful and educational videos of Oskaras reflecting actualities of our days and revealing the beauty of nature.

4th category – groups of young people

Online school newspaper Sratinukas collects interesting events of Alizava school life, descriptions of ongoing projects, interviews with teachers, gests and students.

 

The entries-winners compete in the European Award for Best Content for Kids, and European winners will be announced on Safer Internet Day, 11 February 2014.
