The Cyprus Computer Society (CCS) announces the winners of the Pancyprian Informatics Olympiad who will represent Cyprus in the respective international competitions.

Specifically, the team that will represent Cyprus in this year's International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) that will be held online on 19-25 June 2021 consists of:

  • Dimitris Chrysostomou (American Academy, Larnaca)
  • Theofani Orfanou (Pascal Greek School, Limassol)
  • Charalambos Georgiou (National Guard, Limassol)
  • Christos Fala (English School, Nicosia)

Also, the following students will represent Cyprus in the European Junior Informatics Olympiad (EJOI) which will be held online on 24-28 August 2021.

  • Theofanis Orfanou (Pascal Greek School, Limassol)
  • Loukas Loukas (High School of Agia Paraskevi Geroskipou, Paphos)
  • Orestis Souzos (Dianellou and Theodotou High School, Nicosia)
  • Polykarpos Christodoulou (High School of Agios Theodoros, Paphos)

It is noteworthy that the first runner-up of the Cyprus team participating at the European Olympiad is the primary school student George Laouris (Primary School of Paphos ΄- "Evagoras Pallikaridis", Paphos).

As stated by the Vice President of the CCS Board Mr. Andreas Loutsios "Since 1991, when the Pancyprian competition was organized, it is the first time that a primary school student has managed to reach such a high ranking". We wish good luck to all the young talents who will represent Cyprus and equivalent positions and  medals as last year!

The Pancyprian Informatics Olympiad 2021 is a programming competition organized by CCS in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth and supported by the companies XM and Oracle Academy. The annual event aims to select the official delegations of Cyprus to International IT Olympiads, the preparation of which is undertaken by volunteers, trainers and teachers who offer free courses and guidance to participants.

It is noted that students who win medals at the International Balkan and the European Informatics Olympiads, can be admitted to departments of the University of Cyprus without exams, while many of the members of the Cypriot delegation study at leading universities abroad.
