Both through public voting as through the votes of our judges, Ester Collado has been elected as the Most Outstanding Telecentre Woman in the region of Europe.
Ester Collado lives and works in La Seu d'Urgell, in the mountain area of the Pyrenees of Catalonia (Spain), a rural region where many people stay behind in the digital divide. She started to work in the telecentre 8 years ago, and found she had to learn ICT herself to be able to teach workshops. She did a hard job convincing people to come to the centre and currently managed to register about 300 people for the workshops, with 9000 uses on a yearly basis, a very high number for a city that consists of only 12.000 inhabitants.
Her career, her social profile and of community growth, her education and training, her motivation and enthusiasm and the exponential growth that she has developed in the city of La Seu d'Urgell has made that everybody believes in the telecentre project at the level of giving support, reinforcement, materials, opportunities and resources.
At all times, she has been attentive to the changes suffered by the people in the region, and to the demands of the people with disabilities that visited the centre for gaining access to ICTs, thereby facilitating the work to optimally focus the action and activity that requires the telecentre project.
Telecentre.org Foundation and Telecentre-Europe AISBL thank all participants of this campaign to recognize the 100 Most Outstanding women of telecentres worldwide and congratulate Ester for this well deserved recognition as a prominent telecentre woman in Europe.
