Get Online Week 2015 in Croatia - a big success!

Get Online Week 2015 in Croatia focused on increasing employability by providing theoretical and practical knowledge and digital skills, which is also one of the objectives of the Digital Agenda for Creative Croatia, a part of the European Grand Coalition for Digital Jobs Initiative.

Digital Agenda for Creative Croatia is a multi-stakeholder network of organisations and individuals from the civil, public and private sector whose goal is to stimulate digital inclusion and education for the digital industry, achieved through networking and joint advocacy. At the same time, it is a project conducted by the organizations which have participated in GOW15  campaign - Centre of Technical Culture Rijeka as Leading partner of the project, Telecentar as the coordinator of GOW in Croatia, Society for Social Ecology, Forum 50+ and  Centre M.A.R.E.

During GOW an ongoing survey was initiated in cooperation with the City of Zagreb - „Interest for joining the Digital Agenda for Creative Croatia “ in which the City of Novi Vinodolski also participated. In another collaboration with the City of Zagreb, Telecentar held a round table exploring this national coalition as a platform for future development of projects, and its inclusion in Zagreb's candidature for European Capital of Culture in 2020. The round table was attended by representatives of Public Open University Zagreb, Faculty of Political Science, Algebra, Faculty of Teacher Education, HRT, Center for Croatian Studies, student newspaper Global, Consulio and the Zagreb 2020 - European Capital of Culture Initiative.

Throughout the 2015 GOW in Croatia, people’s digital skills, knowledge and employability were increased through 37 workshops and trainings. CTC Rijeka, which has been a part of GOW since it’s beginnings, organized 15 workshops for about 150 beginners and experts in the digital world. Some of the topics they covered in GOW in Rijeka were: Photoshop, InDesign, Excel for NGO’s, Europass, Coding, HTML, CMS, Internet safety and Parental control.  Telecentar focused on young, unemployed people and held 6 workshops on Photography, Audio Production and CV 2.0 (Europass, YouRock.Jobs, eSkills, Video CV). Society for Social Ecology organized trainings on Digital mobile photography and CV 2.0/YouRock. Forum 50+ had 57 participants, mostly seniors who attended 10 workshops on basic ICT skills - Internet, social networks and Office programs. Centre M.A.R.E. cooperated with the Croatian Employment Office on the Europass workshop for the unemployed youth, the Rovinj Tourist Board on the training for Online registration of tourists, and the Pensioner’s organisation on the Basics of Internet workshop targeting the elderly and the young people with mental disabilities. 

The objective of raising public awareness about employability potentials in the digital technology sector and the importance of digital skills and knowledge, was accomplished by the campaign activities and the media reach of over 900,000 people. Public interest for the organized events was high due to the announcements and reports made through social networks and the coverage of national and local media. Overall, the campaign was very successful and has created a lot of interest, as well as positive feedback from all the participants.
