Global Telecentre Awards nomination closes with 254 entries in 6 categories

The response to Telecentre.org Foundation's call for entries to the 1st Global Telecentre Awards was overwhelming, thanks to everyone who participated and supported this particular undertaking. As of the March 8 deadline, TCF received a total of 254 entries distributed in 6 different categories as follows: Telecentre – 58, Telecentre Manager – 58, Telecentre Network – 22, Telecentre Innovation – 55, Telecentre Initiative – 50, and Information Access Center – 9, with 2 entries having unspecified categories.

Of the total number of entries received, 48% are in Spanish, 37% in English, while the remaining 15% are a mixture of Arabic, Russian and French. Over the next few weeks, these entries will be subjected to an initial screening process by a special panel of evaluators to determine the top 3 semifinalists in each category.

Following this, an online voting will be held in April through Telecentre.org Foundation’s community websites to enable members to show their support for the nominated entries of their choice. Entries with the highest number of votes will be declared as the Global Community’s Choice awardees.

At about the same time, all semifinalists will proceed to the final judging stage and will be evaluated by a carefully selected panel of judges to identify the grand winners. Results of the online voting will not in any way affect this stage of the evaluation process.

The Awards is an initiative that seeks to recognize and celebrate outstanding players in the global telecentre movement. It is spearheaded by TCF and the organizers of Spark (4th Global Forum on Telecentres), in cooperation with the regional telecentre networks.
