GOW2013 story from Macedonia:Only the Sky is the Limit

Milena is 21-years old girl with physical disability. Despite of the severe spasms of her hand muscles, she bravely fights every day to get better education, because she believes that is the only way to find employment one day.

Having graduated from the Sv. Naum Ohridski public high school for education and rehabilitation, she enrolled again to study another course. Milena is also a user of the Center for Assistive Technology at Open the Windows. She comes to the Center once a week and learns to use the computer and Internet.

Recently she was introduced with the PowerPoint application, and she mastered it very quickly. In a while she made a presentation on health education.

During Get Online Week Campaign, Open the Windows visited Milena’s school where she held the presentation in front audience for the first time in her life. The present teachers and parents of children with disabilities were also briefly introduced with the benefits of assistive technology.

“My presentation was excellent and I feel very satisfied.  I feel even happier because of the flattering words of my teachers. This presentation opened a new way of doing things for me. I got an invitation to present my work in other schools. The computer use helped me to improve my writing skills; on Internet I can find a lot of things. In near future, I may find an employment too. I imagine working in a library one day”, said Milena few days after the presentation.

This persistent girl has discovered a way to use technology for personal development and seeking better education and employment. The sky is the limit for her.
