The DREAMS project consortium organized the International Webinar on Digital Storytelling with Roma Parents on 3 December 2020.
Digital stories made by Roma parents from Belgium, Bulgaria, and Romania were presented and discussed with project consortium members and general public participants. During the event, the direct and indirect benefits of using the project methodology were also analysed.
Calin Rus, Intercultural Institute Timisoara , moderated the session. Project partners, Andreea Dima, from MAKS vzw (Belgium), Silvia Vasileva, from HESED (Bulgaria), Peter Palvolgyi, from ALL DIGITAL AISBL (Belgium) and Ion Goracel, from Intercultural Institute Timisoara (Romania); presented their perpective on the methodology of the project.
The digital stories presented were done by Roma parents. The stories were recorded in local languages and their reflected the interaction of Roma parents with the school and their active involvement in the school community. The process of preparing and sharing the stories, empowered and supported Roma parents to express their views and helped them address issues like inclusion, discrimination and segregation.
Participants from all over Europe, actively participated in the opened discussion at the event and presented their thoughts on the digital story telling methodology and impact in the engagement of Roma parents into the schools environment.
The next steps of the project will be to present the second digital stories made by the same Roma parents expressing their feelings by participating in such initiative.
