The recently started international project Use IT and Enjoy implemented by Swedish, Danish and Lithuanian partners has come into action. In the very beginning of September the kick-off meeting was held in Vilnius. The project team consisted of representatives from Aeldremobiliseringen (DK), PRO (SE) and Langas į ateitį (LT) and it was a great opportunity to get to know each other, to review project aims & objectives as well as to discuss the next project activities.
The project idea was developed due to the current situation in the partner countries. Only some part of the elderly in the Baltic region use information technologies in their everyday life: only half of the people aged 50-75 and one-third of the elderly over 75. The project partners started this initiative to highlight the issue of encouraging seniors for using digital inclusion. The purpose of the project is to explore methodologies & facilitate the development of motivation techniques for the elderly to take up getting online.
First, the partners’ meeting discovered some differences between learning methods used by each organization. It was decided that a comparison of various methodologies and project team insights should bring pretty good results in engaging elderly to use IT in everyday life.
The meeting consisted of two days: the first day was dedicated to the project overview and the sharing of tasks.
The next day, several interesting visits were organised. The project partners met with Lithuanian union of pensioners’ “Bočiai”, where the head of the organization, Petras Ruzgus, introduced its activities and projects.
The guests of "Langas į ateitį" were also brought to the public library branch in the Trakai town. Here, the librarians had invited active local community members, teachers & trainees of ICT courses to participate in the visit's meeting and let our guest hear vivid and true seniors' impressions about ICT learning & neccesity in their duty.
The meeting ended with the agreement being signed between the project partners.
