Looking back at Code Week in Lithuania

This year Code Week in Lithuania was celebrated with almost 100 events across the country. During October 9-22, events of various sizes and locations took place: from national conference #SWITCH! gathering 15.000 participants with a special focus on medtech and fintech, to local events in schools of remote areas like Utena city.

Association “Langas į ateitį” for the past several years is engaged in the activities of Code Week as well. With the slogan CODE=CREATE, events were organized in cooperation with Robotics school, coding volunteers, Google Lithuania and schools of Kretinga district. The goal of the initiative was to introduce coding to students as well as provide train-of-trainer for primary school teachers. Subjects of the events organized:

  • Today’s website creation with HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP coding languages, introducing different coding languages and website creation steps;
  • Mobile app creation for Android platform, providing kids the opportunity to create their very first app;
  • Coding with Microbit, during which practical tasks were used to try programming with Microbit;
  • Coding languages: Run Marco game, when the youngest ones had an opportunity to start simple coding in a very interesting way.

To summarize the involvement of association “Langas į ateitį” in Code Week 2017: four schools, seven events, 463 students (9-14 yo) and 19 teachers.

Looking forward to next year!
