The Microsoft funded 2012 project"ICT skills for youth career opportunities", implemented by Langas į ateitį (LIA) has just ended its event activities. The interactive events “IT for Your Tomorrow” attracted a big number of young participants between 16-24 in 5 different places of Lithuania.
The idea of the informational & educational events “IT for Your Tomorrow” was to demonstrate young citizens (16+) the importance and variety of ICT when choosing a job, inform them on internet safety and how to watch over their image on internet, and a lot more.
The events attracted over 1000 young people who were invited to participate in 12 different lectures about career planning, online reputation, professions around ICT and about the most desirable professions in the EU. Alongside the lectures they could visit a market place where they could receive advise about useful e-products and e-services, test their safe internet skills or discover tools to improve their knowledge.
The events were successful thanks to great team work and good organizational skills of the staff involved.
The youngsters were especially enthusiastic about the possibility to have informal conversations with representatives of business companies, to listen to them, ask to them professional and even personal questions.
They also highly appreciated how representatives from the Lithuanian Labour Exchange/State employment agency informed them about the needs on the Lithuanian labour market, and how "Invest Lithuania" introduced them on how to start their own business.
LIA's director Loreta Krizinauskiene concluded:
“Up till 2012 we were encouraging adults to use ICT and improve the quality of their lives with new skills. With this project, we got acquainted to the young 16+ generation and found out that they need attention as well - so their ICT skills could be safe and useful to their future.”
All events were widely reflected in the Lithuanian mass & social media:
More than 15 different project partners were involved in the successful implementation of the project. Strong partnership is one of the key factors of this project success.
