Gedaref Digital City Organization (GDCO) is founded in partnership with the Digital City of Eindhoven (DSE) in Netherlands through the twinning between Eindhoven and Gedaref municipalities. DSE and many partners donated more than 750 computers and laptops to GDCO to establish its projects to connect people, especially the marginalized, disadvantaged and underserved communities to ensure that no one is left behind and connect the unconnected.
GDCO established telecentres for people with disabilities, out of schools, youth clubs, farmers unions, and Gedaref university. People with disabilities are still excluded from many areas of life, especially information technologies (IT), and they had been ignored even in the millennium development goals (MDGs), so they got more than 25% of these computers. GDCO donated 150 computers and 25 laptops to them and trained them for free. GDCO provides many of them (specially people with hearing impairments) with computers to keep at home, practicing and communicating with their friends and families and maintaining or changing them if they are broken.
GDCO works to include them in the community through ICT, because:
