The Consortium for the Commemoration of the First Millennium of the Foundation of Granada's Kingdom (also known as Millennium) and Telecentre.org Foundation signed a cooperation agreement on March 5, 2013 incorporating the celebration of the 4th Global Forum on Telecentres (Spark 13) into the Millennium's program.
Millennium commemorates the founding of the Kingdom of Granada a thousand years ago. Under the slogan "Live a thousand years," the organization's committee aims to promote and disseminate a wide variety of high level cultural, sporting, and social activities throughout the celebration.
The recently concluded agreement between Millennium and Telecentre.org Foundation integrates the Spark 13 conference into the catalog of official activities covered by the yearlong Millennium celebration. The agreement hopes to foster better understanding of both events through the use of ICT, which has served as a communication channel throughout history and helped to bridge the gap between past and present.
In a brief press conference held during the signing, María José Sánchez, the representative of the Andalusian Government in Granada, highlighted the enormous capacity of the global telecentre network to transfer information and culture to one billion users worldwide. "We want to bring information from Granada and the other provinces participating in the Millennium to this global network," said Sanchez. Miguel Raimilla, Executive Director of Telecentre.org Foundation added that Spark 13 would highlight the role played by ICTs and telecentres in preserving and promoting local traditions and culture for new generations, and facilitating the exchange among different cultures worldwide.
