What does your organization do (100-word description)
The Authority has been very active over the years, implementing numerous initiatives including the establishment of 16 Community Technology Learning Centres (locally known as CTLCs) in different locations across Malta and Gozo with the aim of improving access to ICT within the community. These centres also offer training opportunities to the community. Twelve of these centres are open to the general public, whilst the remaining four cater for specific vulnerable groups such as persons with disabilities and battered wives. The MCA, in collaboration with private enterprises, has contributed towards the upgrading of these Centres, by providing computer facilities featuring latest hardware and software technologies, together with Internet connectivity. The MCA also supports the training of tutors and the centres’ administrators, who usually form part of the same community served by the centre.
What digital skills training or activities do you or does your organization offer (if any)?
In the last five years, the Information Society unit has rolled out two major ICT training projects, branded ENTER and ICTforALL, with the latter being an ESF project. These training programmes were intended to drive more adults towards engaging with ICT to improve their quality of life and reduce the risk of social exclusion and were provided free of charge. The training was delivered both in Maltese and English. Through these programmes, the MCA has trained more than 7000 individuals with more than 114,000 of hours of training.

How are you involved in digital inclusion / empowerment?
Notwithstanding all the initiatives to facilitate the uptake of ICT, we recognise that there are certain groups of individuals who may require more convincing than others on the positive impact that ICT can have on their quality of life. We therefore take up every opportunity to design and implement awareness campaigns that address the people’s perception towards technology. This has triggered the launch of additional initiatives which specifically target individuals over 55 years of age.
